Occupational health and safety

What is a Workplace Risk Assessment (APV) in Denmark?

A Workplace Risk Assessment (APV) is a mandatory evaluation of all working environment conditions in a company. It ensures that potential risks to employee health and safety are identified and addressed.

Requirements of a risk assessment (APV)

It is a legal requirement that all companies with employees prepare a risk assessment (APV) that covers all working environment conditions in the company.

Remember

  • It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that the company prepares a risk assessment and that the employees are involved
  • The risk assessment must be in writing and be accessible to both management and employees
  • A risk assessment can be available, for example, by hanging on the wall in the canteen or online on the intranet. The most important thing is that employees and management know where to find it.
  • Management and employees must cooperate throughout the risk assessment process.
  • It must be clear who is responsible for implementing the company's action plan in practice
  • The risk assessment must be revised when changes occur that have an impact on the working environment – at least every 3 years

  2. Include sick leave
  3. Make an action plan
  4. Implement the action plan and follow up

Why is a workplace risk assessment (APV) important?

By conducting a thorough risk assessment, businesses can create a safer, healthier, and more productive work environment. It is also a legal requirement in Denmark that all companies with employees prepare a written APV.

What is important to remember when making a good risk assessment?

  • Goals and expectations
  • APV must fit your business
  • Involvement of all employees and managers
  • Mapping and action plans are carried out within a short time
  • Take as a starting point the problems that fill everyday life
  • Make the risk assessment work visible – before, during and after

The purpose of a risk assessment (APV)

The purpose of an APV is to be based on the individual's experience of the workplace and the situations that employees find themselves in.

This means that an APV must:

  • protect employees,
  • assess work processes,
  • improve the organization and performance of work.
